Teaching at VIT university is structured around nine schools of study. A student is registered in one of the schools, depending on the degree/programme he/she student is interested in pursuing.
Research centers are also part of the schools, encouraging interdepartmental collaboration and opportunity for students to participate in exciting research projects. The university offers 18 Undergraduate and 35 Postgraduate programmes.
The School of Computing Science and Engineering (SCSE) aims at achieving excellence in teaching and research in the computing discipline. The School has highly qualified faculty, excellent laboratories and learning resources to achieve its objective. The programmes are designed to cater to the ever changing needs and demands of the industry. The focus is on holistic learning and on empowering students to make significant contributions at all levels.
The School offers a variety of electives for students to attain an in-depth knowledge in their chosen area of interest. To develop core competencies and special interest groups for learning newer technologies, the school presently has seven technical divisions, such as Theoretical Computer Science and Language Translators, Computer Networks, Computer Architecture, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Software Systems, Digital Media Computing and Intelligent Systems. SCSE has excellent infrastructure, including domainspecific laboratories associated with the technical divisions. Industry leaders like IBM, Intel, Cisco, Sun Microsystems, Red Hat and Microsoft have established their laboratories in collaboration with the school. The School has a track record of organising national and international seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences in emerging technological areas periodically.
VIT and Accenture have jointly set up an Innovation Centre at VIT University for moulding the students for a better placement by giving training in areas like Service Oriented Architecture, Cloud Computing, and Workshops. In addition, Intel also joins with VIT for encouraging students in hardware engineering by sponsoring Multicore Labs and Embedded system lab to support technology innovation.
Computer software engineers apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software systems. The tasks performed by these workers evolve quickly, reflecting new areas of specialisation or changes in technology, as well as the preferences and practices of employers.

The major laboratories include: Theoretical Computer Science and Language processing, Open Source Technologies, Data Technology, Grid-Cloud Computing, Software Systems, Computational Intelligence, Image Processing - Vision and Graphics, High Performance Computing, Altera FPGA - SOPC, Mobile Computing and Intel Multicore Laboratories. All laboratories are equipped with the latest hardware and software including Sybase- IQ15, SPSS-Clementine, Rational Rose 2003, IBMDB2 & IBM Infosphere, Qualnet Developer,Adobe Master collection CS-5 Bundle, KeilU Vision, Altera Quartus II, Model Sim - Altera, ATMEL - FLIP, etc., for the upgradation of education and upliftment of research for students to meet the challenging needs of the IT sector.
